Who Are You Really — Holy or a Sinner?

Based on Hebrews 3:1a – "Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling..."

Let’s take a moment to see who this verse is speaking to. It’s addressed to two kinds of people:

  1. Holy people

  2. Those who share in the heavenly calling

Before we go further, here’s a question for you:
Do you see yourself as holy—or a sinner?
Some of you might say, “I’m holy because of Jesus,” while others might feel, “No, I still sin, so I must be a sinner.”

These thoughts often come from what we’ve been taught growing up. But today, let’s set aside opinions and see what the Bible really says about who we are.

How Did Sin Enter the World?

We know the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. When Adam disobeyed God, something big happened:

📖 Romans 5:12
"Through one man (Adam), sin entered the world, and death came through sin. In this way, death spread to all people, because all sinned."

Let’s break this down:

  1. Adam sinned → sin entered the world

  2. Sin brought death

  3. Now, death affects everyone because all are born into sin

This means even a newborn baby, who hasn't done anything yet, is born with a sinful nature.
📖 Psalm 51:5
"Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me."

So, are we all born sinners? Yes. But is that the end of the story? No!

God’s Original Plan Was Different

When God made Adam, He didn’t design him to live in sin.

📖 Genesis 1:27–28
"God created man in His own image... male and female He created them. Then God blessed them and said, 'Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and rule over it.'"

God gave humans something very special:

  • His image and likeness

  • Blessing

  • The ability to multiply

  • Authority over creation

Now here’s something to think about:
Every other creation (animals, birds, plants, oceans) does what God created it to do—without questioning or choosing differently. But man was given a mind to think and choose. That’s part of being made in God’s image—we have a will.

Unfortunately, Adam used that will to disobey God.
But here’s the good news: God had a plan to restore us!

God's Rescue Plan Through Jesus

📖 Romans 5:19
"Just as through one man’s disobedience many became sinners, so also through one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous."

Let’s put that simply:

  • Adam disobeyed → we became sinners

  • Jesus obeyed → we are made righteous

So, when you accept Jesus, you are no longer a sinner by identity—you are made righteous by faith.

So, Who Are You Now?

Here’s a final question for you to think about:
If you have accepted Jesus into your life, can you confidently say “I am righteous”?
Or are you still calling yourself a sinner, even after receiving Christ?

📖 Romans 3:23 says:
"All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
Yes, that's true—but that’s the condition before Jesus came into our lives. After receiving Him, everything changes.

Takeaway Thought

Don’t let the enemy lie to you and make you feel unworthy. Your identity in Christ is not based on your past—but on Jesus’ obedience.

If you're unsure or confused about who you are in Christ, I’d be happy to walk with you and help you understand more. You are called to live free, holy, and victorious—not stuck in guilt or shame.
